Sitch

Sitch is a chair that rethinks assumptions of joining methods. It combines traditionally soft joining methods, such as those associated with fabrics and textiles, with hard planar materials to create an interesting juxtaposition to ask the question of “What is the correct way to join two pieces of wood?”

The final joints were inspired by butterfly joints. Butterfly joints are used to hold two or more pieces together or to reinforce cracks in wood. Here, the butterfly joint was adapted with stitching to reinforce the structure of the chair, and to highlight the joints aesthetically rather than hide them.
