Terra Blocks are designed to subvert assumptions you have of traditional blocks. The large ceramic blocks create an uneasy feeling as each sit precariously on the ridges of each face. The ridges allow for stacking and balancing in a variety of angles and orientations to create increasingly unnerving abstract structures.
Terra Blocks overturn expectations by taking a material that is seen as fragile and forcing the user to put it in situations that could break it. It surprises the user when picking up a large stone-like object, and finding it light. The puzzling nature of the blocks stimulates curiosity and a desire to push the blocks to the limits and see what new and strange forms they can make.
Terra Blocks were inspired by the art of stone balancing. Stone balancing is the discipline in which rocks are balanced atop themselves without any external help. Traditional toy blocks tend to focus on recreation of buildings and structure rather than the joy of simply stacking and balancing.
